Lately I keep hearing my clients say the same sentence

Have I missed something?
Is there a trend on social media?
It seems like something is in the air.
It is striking how often I hear this phrase. And of course, as a coach, this makes me very happy.

The other day; I'll just call her Maria, said the same thing. Maria works at a large company and manages a reception area. A year ago, she started her new job at this company with lots of enthusiasm. But very little of that enthusiasm is left. There is always trouble. Last week it happened again.
1 receptionist had to go to the dentist
1 wanted a free afternoon
And 1 was in a meeting

Result: there was no one sitting at reception. Maria herself was out that afternoon for an appointment and when she returned, she saw that the HR adviser was sitting behind the reception desk. Though the ladies had said they would be absent, Maria assumed they would coordinate with each other. Frustration spurted out of Maria's ears.

And so there are numerous examples. Communication always goes wrong. Maria wants to be positive and constructive, but every time an incident like the one above occurs, her good intentions disappear like snow in the sun. Maria was tired and frustrated. She caught herself looking at the clock all the time. She hoped it would soon be 5pm so she could finally go home.

But this is totally not how Maria wants to work. She just wants to have a nice contact with the 3 ladies at the reception. I really don't have to become their best friend, she assured me. But I want to get rid of this nagging. Next year, I'll still be sitting here with the same frustrations I have now.

"It's now or never" she said decidedly. I is time for a new approach.
Fortunately, we managed to achieve quite a turnaround and the reception is now functioning properly.
The receptionists were pleased with her
Her manager complimented her
And Maria, of course, was also very happy

Now don't immediately think, I want that too. I'll give Heleen a call and in no time everything will be sorted out. You still have to do the work to make a reception or department work better / more efficiently / more commercially. But now it is a matter of focused energy. It's a matter of working towards a clear goal.
